23. The 11th of October : hitch-hiking from Bucharest to Sofia.

7.30am, my host Catalin gave me a lift to the south of Bucharest in a good spot to hitch-hike near a gas station. After 30 minutes a driver stopped and brought me after the border between Romania and Bulgaria. We crossed the Danube.

300 meters after the customs control i hitch-hiked for 20 minutes and a truck driver brought me to Veliko Tarnovo. He is Nicolas. His brother lives in the same town than Eric Clapton as he said.

It was 12 o’clock so i decided to visit Veliko Tarnovo. A very nice village between mountains.

At 15.45 pm i hitch-hiked outside the city for 1 hour. George stopped. I didn’t understand him as i thought he would give me a lift for 5 kilometers but it was actually for 200!

We spoke a bit in english and russian and we had a break for lunch. He invited me! After that we stopped in a gas station to fix a light which was defectuous in his truck. I helped him to fix it.

A great meeting. Spontaenous, true. There is no proportion between the lenght of a meeting and its beauty.

I arrived at 19.30 pm in a gas station where i asked to people if they could give me a lift to Sofia. I found a car which stopped just in front on me. I smiled to the driver and they brought me to center of Sofia. The girlfriend of the driver is Stela. She will show me around the day after in Sofia and will share with me many stories about history, religion and Sofia.

A very nice day.
